Get a Residency in August or September

Postby anatolyk » Mon Jun 20, 2005 10:15 am

It is possible if a program has a an unexpected open spot.
This can happen if someone cannot start a residency because of visa denial or delays or because of family matters.

There are cases when programs are willing to wait for their residents to come on board till as late as October.

In most cases though, a program starts looking for a replacement. This is how it is possible to get into a program in a July-October timeframe.

It is almost impossible because of a simple math:
There are about 10-30 openings each year vs 3000-5000 unmatched IMGs.

Just for a reference, the ratio is 3:1 in the scramble.

I have not heard a single success story with them either.

But it's not because they do something wrong, it's just because the competition is too high. There are thousands of IMGs jumping on any posted opening. There were just 2 openings in FP, two years ago.

Try:
http://www.psych.org/career_corner/care ... search.cfm
It is a great resource for psychiatry spots that are available. In Dallas/Fort Worth one just became available at John Peter Smith Hospital.

This isn't just about the scores or visa status, or USCE, or LORs. This is about all things together.

The programs that do not work with visas are closed for non-GC applicants reducing their chances.
