why i didnt find a spot in scramble

Postby doctor_Ban » Thu Mar 16, 2006 1:17 am

Hi,

Very disappointed right now. I was really looking forward to the scramble. I was registered with Eras and nrmp.

i worked hard on CAF and PS. Applied mainly to FP and IM. I didnt get a single call even

IMG
Graduated.......2002
step1 and step2......both score 80 (first attempt)
step2 CS .....Pass (first attempt)
3 US LORs
Research in Ophthalmology for one yr
2 publications
1 poster
US citizen

Please some one tell me why ?. What can i do in future to improve my chances. Should i call those programs why they didnt consider me or atleast tell me whats lacking?

Thanks in advance

There is one simple answer - it was the toughest scramble ever.

Why was it the toughest Scramble yet?

I am wondering why it was a tough scramble?

this year there were high number of IMG's, as Visa was not a problem this year . so lot of good candidates reached here. due to this there were very few seats in comparison to the last year. That's why results of this match are very disappointing.

anyway, now bring some strength and try in findaresident. GOOD LUCK!

Tough scramble

Number of unfilled Categorical IM went down from approx. 300 to 99.
It had a significant ripple effect on all other specialties.

why did you do ophthalmology research for 1yr? just curious, it may seem to PDs in IM or FP that you were interested in something else?

it was toughest scramble?......is it becoz progs are now more smart and they make sure they dont get unfilled sopts?....if so then we have to rely on proper match and interviews!

i agree gosh........it was too long ...i feel like i wasted my time there and now with low steps scores no body is giving me ophth residency either.....and perhaps the ophth research intimidated PD's. I did explain it in my PS very well though!!

But one things for sure its really so disapointing

hey, it is just like impossible to get into residency in opthalmology. i have a friend, who is doing fellowship in opthalmology in Houston. he told me himself, that he would rather prefer to go to India after his fellowship, rather then trying here for residency.
next time please consider some other branch.
good luck!
