What exactly is PGY1?

Postby barrod » Fri Apr 07, 2006 4:21 pm

What exactly is PGY1 and why is it subdivided under the "Findaresident"/resume/status. I know this is one of the program year preferences, but how exactly this classification works?

Please, somebody...

This is simply a Post Graduate Year 1 and refers to a first year of training at a residency program. Some advanced programs require PGY-1 before starting. E.g. Anesthesiology consists of PGY-1 in IM or Surgery and then CA-1 - CA-3 in Anesthesiology.
