Dear Anatolyk:
My graduation year is 1992,but I have passed a residency in internal medicine in my own country and its ended in 1996,is it an advantage
or negative point for me ,to apply for an IM program?
Some programs has a cutoff for graduation more than 5 yr ,what does it mean?
some of them prefer graduation in 5 or less ,can I apply to them?
I am worry about that ,please give me an advice.
(step1=88.step2=82.cs in ith AUG.GC holder)

The fact that you completed an IM residency in your home country should definitely help.

This is correct, a lot of programs require 5 or less years after graduation. Not all of them actually follow this rule. It is impossible though to tell, which ones do. The answewr really depends on your own judgement. Try applying in chunks if your budget is limited. Otherwise try to apply to as many programs as possible.

Your scores and visa status are good for IM. Assuming you have US LORs you should have no problem.

It is very difficult to get ortho indeed. Strategy is pretty straightforward: high scores, past experience, LORs from US ortho docs.
