IRISH FAMILY PHYSICIAN WANTS TO GO TO USA

Postby afsplace » Mon Aug 15, 2011 3:55 am

I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE ADVICE REGARDING OPTIONS FOR GOING TO WORK IN THE USA. I AM AN IRISH TRAINED FAMILY DOCTOR AND WANT TO WORK IN THE USA. IT APPEARS I CAN OBTAIN RECIPROCITY AND BE LICENSED BY THE AMERICAN BOARD OF FAMILY DOCS. HOWEVER THERE ARE APPARENTLY LIMITATIONS TO WORK DEPENDING ON THE STATES. I AM NOT SURE IF I SHOULD DO FULL RESIDENCY / PARTIAL RESIDENCY / OR FELLOWSHIP OR JUST WORK FOR A FEW YEARS IN AN IMG FRIENDLY STATE TO OBTAIN BOARD CERT AND LICENSURE IN USA.

I HAVE GREEN CARD , STEP ONE SCORE 94 220, WAITING TO DO STEP 2.

THANK YOU

Just to clarify - ABFM does not provide license to practice. The board certifies one's proficiency in the specialty. Even if ABFM certifies you, you still need medical license for a state you are going to practice in.
