Visa for Clinical Clerkship

Postby coyotl » Sat Jul 04, 2009 12:24 pm

Hi!
In order to graduate in my country I have to perform 3 clinical clerkships in 6th year, each with a duration of 4 months. Since I am allowed to perform those in foreign countries too, I would like to do 4 months in the US in order to get US clinical experience and a good LOR.
The problem is, that I think I would have to get a J visa. Would that be of disadvantage if one year later I decides to apply for a residency? I´d like to get a H1b visa and I´ve heard that this could be problematic in that case.
Is there any possibility to perform those clerkships an a B1 visa?

I would be very happy to hear your thoughts about that

kind regards

If you are not going to get paid, I do not think you need a J1 visa. You should consult with an immigration attorney.
